Your ‘simply’ Hints & Tips
Here Are Some Useful Dos & Don’ts:
-
Do start with the first lesson on the first DVD at your child's starting point as set out in the paperwork that came with your ‘simply’ programme even if it seems very easy. Finding lessons easy and getting 100% is a great confidence boost.
-
Don’t let them look at the exercises in the textbook before watching the lesson on the DVD. The lessons do more than show how to get the right answer – they explain why each method works.
-
Do try and establish a regular study routine and remember that as their lives change, you should change the study routine accordingly.
-
Don’t try and do one or two lessons each week, do one or two half hour sessions each week. You may find that, whilst one lesson can be watched once and the exercises done straight away all in a single session, another lesson may need to be watched three or four times over one or two weeks before attempting the exercises. Or maybe, particularly young children might watch part of the lesson and do just one of the exercises each time.
-
Do praise and reward your children for achieving high marks. In our experience, praise and rewards are more likely to create a positive environment for learning then arguments and bribes.
-
Don’t make using the programme a chore. Encourage your children and always mark successful scores on each child’s personal Ladder of Success wall chart.
-
Do mark the exercises as soon as possible, preferably as soon as the children have done them and always within 24 hours and write encouraging comments like ‘well done’ or ‘good effort’ or draw a smiley face. You don’t have to be the teacher but you do have an important part to play.
-
Don’t allow your children to move to the next lesson before they fully understand the current one or they will start to struggle, as each lesson builds on the lessons that have gone before.
-
Do get the most out of our ‘simply’ programmes, make your ‘simply’ programme fit into your family life, not the other way round.
And remember – it only makes a difference if they use it.
