Your turn to teach

There are many different styles of dancing. Like tap dancing, ballroom dancing and break dancing.

Breakdance:

  • Old style break dancing began in the 1960's
  • Breakdance is a street dance which has hip-hop moves in it
  • Trainer brands that we all wear today were revived through their association with hip-hop. In the 1970's break dancers wore trainers such as Adidas Sambas and Puma SPK Kings
  • Break dancing includes really tough moves

Tap dancing:

  • Tap dancing is popular in many parts of the world
  • The name 'Tap dancing' comes from the the tapping sounds made from the heels and toes of a dancer's shoes
  • To take part in the dance you need special tap dancing shoes
  • The tap dancing shoes have metal plates that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer's shoe
  • The metal plates, when tapped against a hard surface, create a percussive sound and as such the dancers are considered to be musicians
  • Because the dancer makes sounds, they are also called a percussive musician

There are LOTS of different dance styles out there. Make sure you try them!
