Marbling Paper
Fun Hobby Craft Ideas...
Have you ever wondered how the marbled paper is made inside the pretty covers of old antique books?
Well here is your chance to make your very own marbled paper!
You can use your final creation to make:
Book covers, wrapping paper, birthday cards, book marks and art to display in your house!
You will need:
- A parent or carer to help you collect all the items you need for this fun task!
- Marbling ink (available from any craft or hobby shop for about £3.50 per pot)
- A flat bottomed tray - ask your parent or carer for an old baking tray!
- A4 paper - 2 sheets (try a few different types to get different textures)
- Newspaper
- Small paintbrush
Now you have everything you need let's get started!
- Step 1 -
Fill the tray with water to the depth of about 1 inch (25mm)
- Step 2 -
Use the small paintbrush to take a very small drop of ink and drop it into the water
- Step 3 -
Add a few more tiny drops of ink into the water and swirl around gently with your paintbrush - for the best effects try using 3 different inks. We suggest trying red, blue and orange (or gold)
- Step 4 -
Place the A4 sheet of paper face down on your tray and wait for 1 minute. Depending on the type of paper, you may find that you need to leave it in for longer.
- Step 5 -
Remove the A4 sheet of paper and leave it to dry on the newspaper.
- Step 6 -
Once your marbled paper is dry, ask your parent or carer to hang it in your bedroom as art!
We’d love to see your final piece of art, why don't you send us a photo or post in your finished marbled paper and maybe it will be featured in the next issue of Pass Masters!
Have fun!
