Important:
Make sure your parent or adult carer helps you carry out this recipe from start to finish.
Instructions for the sponge:-
1. Ask your adult helper to preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a cupcake/muffin tin with cupcake cases. Cream together the butter, caster sugar and brown sugar until it is light and fluffy.
2. Add the vanilla extract and then the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. If the mixture begins to look like it has curdled add a couple of table spoons of the flour and beat well until the mixture looks smooth.
3. Use a metal spoon to fold in the flour, baking powder and salt (add them altogether) and then stir in the Maltesers.
4. Divide the mixture equally between the 12 cupcake cases and ask your adult helper to place the tin in the oven for about 25 minutes. Onced cooked, ask your adult helper to remove the cupcakes from the oven and then leave them to cool in a safe place.
Instructions for the buttercream:
1. Ask your adult helper to help you whisk together the butter, icing sugar and vanilla until it becomes pale and fluffy.
2. Once the cupcakes have cooled down, you can either dollop the buttercream on top of each cupcake or ask your adult helper to help you spread it around with a knife. Or, for a more professional look, fit a piping bag (with a 1cm star nozzle) and pipe the buttercream onto the top of the cupcakes.
3. Don't forget to finish all by sprinkling crushed Maltesers onto the top of the cupcakes!
